If you are a councillor or mayor in England, you may now be able to join the LGPS. We have created a new Councillors and Mayors in England section which explains how the Scheme works for elected members.

Eligible councillors and mayors in England are not automatically enrolled into the LGPS, so you must opt in if you wish to build up pension benefits.

Councillors in Wales were already able to join the LGPS, subject to the conditions set out in the Councillors in Wales section.
